The soul of the any university is its library and the standards of books. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University has excellence in this regard. University provides the facility of Central Library in its premises at Paliwal Park and individual libraries in each department. The books are also provided to the students and a good academic environment is maintained in the library so that the scholars/students can read the material in the library.

The Library has been arranged in the following Sections from the point of view of its collections and services.

1. ACQUISITION SECTION :

In order to acquire all sorts of reading and research materials, there is an Acquisition Section which acquires and collects them for the use of the readers. In order to provide these reading materials, the acquisition section after accessioning sends them to the Technical Section for processing so that books and other reading materials could be used in their respective sections. At present there are 1,71,828 books in the collection of the Central Library including bulk volumes of journals and Doctoral dissertations.

2. TECHNICAL SECTION :

There is a Technical Section for processing all the reading and research materials acquired where they are classified and catalogued before they are sent to respective sections to be used by the readers.

3. PERIODICAL SECTION :

There is a well-equipped section of Periodical Literature for meeting the information needs of research scholars and the students of higher studies. In this Section all the current periodicals are displayed properly for the use of the readers and their back and bound volumes are maintained in systematic order. Due to the paucity of funds, we are subscribing to a limited number of 50 journals besides receiving 150 journals in exchange and gift in different disciplines.

4. RESEARCH AND REFERENCE SECTION :

In order to reference services, specially regarding the Doctoral dissertations approved by this University, have been maintained properly, which are made available for consultation to the research scholars and the research guide of affiliated Colleges of the University and research scholars of other Universities also. This section also maintains highly reference materials, which are used for research purpose. There are Doctoral dissertations in its collections besides standard reference works.

5. REPROGRAPHIC SECTION :

So as to provide Reprographic services, there is a Photocopier section, which maintains two machines for providing Photostat copies of the document on very nominal charges. Every month more than 2000 pages of photocopies are produced and are made available to readers.

I NFLIBNET & COMPUTERIZATION


In order to augment The Library resources under the programme of INFLIBNET : Project of UGC, computerization of the whole collection of books, and journals & Doctoral dissertations is being done and a database of 85,000 documents have been built up which has been sent to INFLIBNET Centre of UGC so that they could be included in the total databases of all the University Libraries of the Country. UGC had provided a special grant of Rs. 50 Lakhs for modernization and computerization of the University Library under INFLIBNET programme.

1. DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY :

Besides the Central Library there are departmental libraries. Each Department and Institute of the University which are well equipped with latest books and journals. They have their own separate budget allocation.

2. SEPARATE COLLECTION :

There are special collections under the Central Library with special collection of books. In such collection are included Mahajan collection and Srivastava collection and Bag chi Collection. There collections possess books on specialized subjects and were donated by distinguished personalities of Agra.

3. PUBLIC LIBRARY FACILITIES :


The Central Library of University provides services to all the Institute and Affiliated Colleges. But it has extended the library facilities as prohibitory to all the individuals of the country who want to make use of the library. This facility has been extended from 1998 and anybody can become a regular member of the library. This is unique facility that this University Library has made available for the public.

SERVICES ARRANGED AND PROVIDED

In order to meet the various types of information needs and queries by the users of the Library, the following types of services are regularly arranged and provided so that readers could be assisted personally.

1. REFERENCE AND DOCUMENTATION SERVICES :

The Library arranges and provides personal assistance and guidance to the readers on demand. In this service Bibliographical services, Translation service, Inter-Library services etc. are arranged when readers demand them Loan Indexing and Abstracting services are made available by subscribing to such periodical publications.

2. REPROGRAPHIC SERVICE :

Readers are provided photostat copies of unpublished and published documents on very nominal charges and there is a separate section for it. This service was started for the first time in 1956.

3. AUDIO-VISUAL FACILITIES :

Besides print material, there is separate collection of non-print materials in which audio cassettes, 2 VCR and 2 Colour TV are available. Microfilm reader and microfiche readers are also available for using microfilm and microfiche.

RARE MANUSCRIPT

The University is privileged to have a large collection of rare manuscript related to literature, history, astronomy, astrology, religion and philosophy. The collection also contains old coins, old picture and map of Agra at the time of Shah Jahan and other items of immense historical value.

University is making every possible effort for the careful preservation of these treasure. KM Institute is actively engaged in preservation and study of these manuscript. Edited work on Sursagar, Padmawat, Beesaldev, Raso etc. are some of the outcomes of these studies.
